Blasts from the past...

One of the things I really came to dislike about working shows during the holidays was missing the chance to spend time with my friends. So, when the Egyptian called and asked me if I was willing to work on White Christmas, I was--initially--very reluctant. I mean, yeah, having the work is always good, having the paycheck through the winter is very important...but that's a lot of time for me to surrender.

That's when Seth (the TD) hit me below the belt, so to speak. He started rattling off a list of all the people I know who are working on that show. And, suddenly, I realized that doing the show was going to be a good way to spend time with friends during the holiday, because a lot of my friends are there. Half the cast are people I've worked with, either at Lagoon or at USU (or both). Arika was the props designer...Phil did the costumes, and was in the show. Daniel was running the fly loft, and Ginger was in the show. Jeff, Erin, Ryan, and Kim were all in the show.

So I did it. And I've loved working on it. I mean, it IS a cheesy show...it's based off a 50's musical film about Christmas, you KNOW it's gonna be cheesy. But it's good. The director did his work well, the cast has been awesome to work with, the music is catchy without being annoying...and I've been having a great time.

The drive home tonight was the first that actually made me go, "Hmmmm...y'know, sometimes I'm not sure if this is really worth it..." It was the first time there was much snowfall to drive through...although the wind was actually as bad or worse than the snow. Luckily, I've got a few days to sit back and relax...and wait for the storm to blow over. Don't have to be back up there until Monday (and that's for a different show...a job I would never have heard about if I hadn't taken this one, but that's kind of the story of my life)...and that's for a meeting that I could, potentially, skip if the drive looks too scary (or at least get together and carpool with someone...) We've got two weeks left in the run...and this is looking like one of those shows that I will actually miss when it is all over. Those are getting rare...I love the shows I've done, don't get me wrong...it's just that, by the time the run is through, I'm ready to call it done. This is one that I'm not so sure I'd be ready to pack away, even though the decision isn't mine.

Just as long as the drive doesn't stay too hairy...
